Start Measurement
After data processing, the bent plate data are relatively stable and small-sized. Next, you can use these data to measure the thickness and dimensions of the plate.
Measure the Thickness of the Bent Plate
The thickness of the bent plate typically refers to the distance between corresponding points on the front and back sides of the plate. By measuring the distance between the center points of the upper and lower surface data, the thickness can be determined.
-
Obtain center points
Use the Locate Feature Point of Surface Step to extract the center points (feature points) from the upper and lower surface data of the bent plate in the preprocessing results, representing the positions of these surfaces.
Set Feature Point Type to Average in the parameter configuration panel. After the Step is run, it outputs the center points of the upper and lower surface feature regions.
-
Extract upper and lower surface data separately
-
Use the first Extract Data Step to extract the center points of the upper surface data.
In the parameter configuration panel of this Step, set Dimension to 3 and Index to 1. After the Step is run, it outputs four feature points on the upper surface.
-
Use the second Extract Data Step to extract the center points of the lower surface data.
In the parameter configuration panel of this Step, set Dimension to 3 and Index to 2. After the Step is run, it outputs four feature points on the lower surface.
-
-
Measure thickness
Use the Measure Dimensions by Features Step to measure the thickness of the bent plate.
In the Output section of the Step, select Distance. After the Step is run, it outputs the distance between the feature points on the upper and lower surfaces, representing the thickness of the bent plate at four positions.
|
The framework loop causes Distance to be calculated twice, resulting in a total of eight results. Please ignore the duplicates and focus only on the first four results.

At this point, you have finished the high-precision thickness measurement of the bent plate.
Measure Dimensions of the Bent Plate
In this example, measuring the dimensions of the bent plate includes its length and width. The length is obtained by measuring the distance from the center point of the data on one short edge of the bent plate to the fitted line of the data on the opposite short edge. Similarly, the width is obtained by measuring the distance from the center point of the data on one long edge to the fitted line of the data on the opposite long edge.
-
Extract upper surface data
Use the Extract Data Step to extract the upper surface data of the bent plate for subsequent distance measurement.
In the parameter configuration panel of this Step, set Dimension to 1 and Index to 1. After the Step is run, it can output the upper surface data.
-
Measure the width of the bent plate
To improve the accuracy of the measurement data, measure the widths on both sides of the center of the long edge separately.
The measurement method is the same for both. The following uses one of them as an example.
-
Obtain center points
Use the Fit Line to Surface Edge Step to extract the center point (feature point) of the data of one long edge from the processed surface data.
The parameter configuration process of the Step is as follows:
-
Use the feature region to select part of the long-edge data.
-
Set Search Direction to the default value (0°) to make the direction roughly perpendicular to the edge for locating edge points.
-
Set Outlier Fraction to 15% to reduce noise interference.
-
In the Output section, select Center Point.
After the Step is run, it outputs the center point of the long-edge data.
-
-
Fit edge lines
Use the Fit Line to Surface Edge Step to fit a straight line along the other long edge from the processed surface data. Set Search Direction to 0° and Outlier Fraction to 15%. In the Output section, select Fitted Edge Line.
After the Step is run, it outputs a straight line along this long edge of the bent plate.
-
Calculate the width
Use the Measure Dimensions by Features Step to measure the distance from the feature point to the fitted line. In the Output section of the Step, select Distance.
After the Step is run, it outputs the width of the bent plate.
-
-
Measure the length of the bent plate
You only need to measure the length once.
-
Obtain center points
Use the Fit Line to Surface Edge Step to extract the center point (feature point) of the data of one short edge from the processed surface data.
The parameter configuration process of the Step is as follows:
-
Use the feature region to select part of the short-edge data.
-
Set Search Direction to 90° to make the direction roughly perpendicular to the edge for locating edge points.
-
Set Outlier Fraction to 15% to reduce noise interference.
-
In the Output section, select Center Point.
After the Step is run, it outputs the center point of the short-edge data.
-
-
Fit edge lines
Use the Fit Line to Surface Edge Step to fit a straight line along the other short edge from the processed surface data. Set Search Direction to 90° and Outlier Fraction to 15%. In the Output section, select Fitted Edge Line.
After the Step is run, it outputs a straight line along this short edge of the bent plate.
-
Calculate the length
Use the Measure Dimensions by Features Step to measure the distance from the feature point to the fitted line. In the Output section of the Step, select Distance.
After the Step is run, it outputs the length of the bent plate.
-
At this point, you have finished the high-precision dimensions measurement of the bent plate.
Next, you can check whether the thickness and dimensions of the bent plate meet the standard based on the measurement results.
