Inline Measurement Solution Overview

What Is the Inline Measurement Solution?

The inline measurement solution is a complete inline measurement and quality analysis solution for large parts launched by Mech-Mind, based on self-developed Mech-Eye industrial 3D camera UHP series cameras and Mech-Metrics inline measurement and quality analysis software. The solution is designed for the automotive manufacturing industry and is suitable for measuring large parts such as subframes, cross car beams (CCB), bumper beams, and twist beams.

System Components of the Inline Measurement Solution

The inline measurement solution consists of the following hardware and software:

inline system hardware

Hardware

The hardware of the inline measurement system includes robots, IPCs, cameras, and external devices, which are introduced below.

Robot

A robot is a programmable mechanical device with a certain degree of autonomy that can execute tasks such as movement, manipulation, or positioning.

A robot cell usually consists of a robot body, a control cabinet, and a teach pendant.

IPC

An IPC is the computer device that provides the runtime environment for Mech-Mind software.

You can use the standard IPC provided by Mech-Mind (recommended), or your own device as the IPC.

UHP Series Camera

The UHP series camera refers to one model series of Mech-Mind’s Mech-Eye industrial 3D cameras (hereinafter referred to as "camera"). At present, the UHP series includes only the UHP-140-GL model.

In the inline measurement solution, the UHP-140-GL camera is used to acquire part data and perform preliminary measurement calculation.

External Devices

In complex application scenarios such as multi-robot setups, external devices such as PLCs are typically used to centrally manage the measurement workflows of multiple robots, while transmitting measurement results or status information to downstream processes for workflow coordination and information sharing.

Software

Based on part data and preliminary measurement results acquired by the camera, Mech-Mind software performs further computation and outputs final measurement results.

In this document, the camera, IPC, and software provided by Mech-Mind are collectively referred to as the Mech-Mind inline measurement system.

The Mech-Mind inline measurement system mainly includes the following software:

  • Mech-Eye Viewer

Mech-Eye Viewer allows users to adjust camera parameters according to target object characteristics, so that part data can be acquired quickly and easily.

  • Mech-MSR

With a fully graphical interface, Mech-MSR 3D measurement and inspection software can complete measurement of multiple part types and output measurement results without coding.

  • Mech-Metrics

Mech-Metrics inline measurement and quality analysis software transforms measurement data output by Mech-MSR into the vehicle body reference frame and provides quality analysis capabilities for measurement results.

  • Communication components

Communication components of the inline measurement system provide inter-software data exchange and support communication with robots.
