STL Model Repairing

When using an STL model to generate a point cloud, you need to determine whether the normals of the STL model are correct. If the normals of the STL model are incorrect, the normals of the point cloud generated from the STL model will also be incorrect, which can directly impact the matching effect. In such cases, the STL model should be repaired.

Determine Correctness of Normals

After importing the STL model into the Target Object Editor, the model should render evenly under normal conditions. If some regions of the model appear black, this typically indicates an issue in those regions. Therefore, the STL model needs to be repaired.

The table below shows examples of models with correct and incorrect normals.

Repair STL Model

If the normals of the STL model are incorrect, you can use the “STL Model Normal Correction Tool” to repair the STL model.

For instructions on downloading and using the “STL Model Normal Correction Tool, refer to Correct Normals of STL Model.
