Check the Point Cloud Quality
This section introduces how to check and optimize the point cloud quality of a workpiece.
The point cloud quality of the workpiece will affect the quality of the point cloud model and the accuracy of recognition. The point cloud quality of the calibration board will affect the accuracy of the hand-eye calibration result. Therefore, it will be checked before hand-eye calibration. |
Check method:
-
Place the workpiece at the center of the working plane within the camera’s field of view.
-
Open the Mech-Eye Viewer software and connect to the camera used by the project.
-
After connecting to the camera, switch parameter group to the parameter group used by the project, and click the button to capture the image once.
-
On the Point Cloud tab in the data display area, view the quality of the workpiece point cloud.
In scenarios with high accuracy requirements, scenarios with a large working distance of the camera, or deep bin-picking situations, it is recommended to capture images of the workpiece at multiple positions within the working area and check the point cloud quality. This includes the center and four corners of the bottom and top planes. |
Point cloud quality standards:
A high-quality point cloud has the following characteristics:
-
Point clouds are complete, and no pick-related feature points are missing.
-
Point cloud fluctuation (noise) is small, and the point cloud is flat without significant upward and downward jitter.
Methods to optimize the point cloud quality:
-
If the ambient light is too strong, shading measures should be taken.
-
Improve the point cloud quality by adjusting the camera mounting angle or image-capturing position, and by ensuring that the direction of the camera stripes is perpendicular to the long side of the workpiece.
-
Adjust the parameters in the 3D Parameters, Point Cloud Processing, Depth Range, andROIcategories to improve the point cloud quality.
