If you encounter a problem when using laser profiler, you can view the device log and software log. You can also export the log and send it to Technical Support to facilitate the troubleshooting process.

To open the log, click Help in the menu bar and then select Log, or click the Log button in the data acquisition area.

Logs

Follow these steps to view the log:

  1. Click the Device log or Software log tab to select the log type.

    • Device log: View the hardware log of laser profiler.

    • Software log: View the software log of Mech-Eye Viewer.

  2. Click a file in the Log files panel on the left, and view the log entries in this file on the right board.

The file name represents the time when the file was generated. For details, refer to Log File Name.

The Log window can display up to 2,000 log entries. To view all entries in a file, export the file.

You can also perform the actions below:

  • Auto refresh: Turn on the Auto refresh toggle switch in the upper-right corner to automatically refresh logs.

  • Clear log:

    • Device log: Click the Clear log button in the upper right to clear both the logs displayed on the software interface and those saved in the device.

    • Software log: Click the Clear log button in the upper right to clear both the logs displayed on the software interface and those saved in the installation path.

A new log file will be generated immediately after the old ones are deleted.
  • Filter by level: Display logs of the selected level(s). For an explanation of log levels, refer to Log Levels.

  • Copy: Right-click the content of the Time, Details, Error code, and Troubleshooting of a log entry to copy the content.

Export Log

You can export a log file to view all log entries in the file. You can also export the encrypted log and provide Technical Support for troubleshooting.

Software Log

The software log is saved in the installation path of Mech-Eye SDK. Click the Open log folder button in the upper right to view the software log files.

Device Log

Follow these steps to export the device log:

  1. Click the Device log tab.

  2. Export the needed log:

    • To export a certain log file, select the file in the Log file panel, click the Export button in the upper right, and select the option Selected log file.

    • To export the encrypted log file, click the Export button in the upper right, and select the option Encrypted log.

  3. Select the folder for saving the log file in the pop-up window, and click the Select Folder button.

To export more than one log file, repeat steps 2 to 3.

Restricted by the storage space of laser profiler, early log files will be deleted occasionally. To avoid losing records of issues, it is strongly recommended to export the encrypted log as a backup when issues occur.

Log Levels

Logs are divided into four levels, namely, i, W, C, and F.

  • i: Information on execution processes, such as connection and data acquisition of laser profiler.

  • W: Warning messages of potential issues.

  • C: Critical errors that may terminate running processes, such as data acquisition.

  • F: Fatal errors that may stop the operation of laser profiler.

Log File Name

The name of a log file represents the time when it was generated.

For example, the log file named 00105_20221117171503_887.log was generated on November 17, 2022, at 17:15:03.887.

Since laser profiler restricts the log file size, a log file with a 1 at the end of its name, such as 00105_20221117171503_887.log.1, can be generated. A log file with a 1 in its name is generated earlier than the one without a 1 in its name.

The time recorded in laser profiler is used as the generation time of a log file and the time of recording a log entry.
